Theta Nu Epsilon: Tradition, Theta Nu Epsilon Society, 2006. If you are looking for an association where you are having a (responsible) entertaining time with good friends, if you have any heartfelt feeling for the august and venerable traditions of old college life, then Theta Nu Epsilon might well be exactly what you’re looking for. Theta Nu Epsilon is the pre-eminent society enshrining the ancient collegiate traditions. It is the only society to make academic traditions sui ipsa a central element. And it is one of the few societies to be able to claim that it is, itself, a grand college tradition. A society so old and storied it is, itself, legendary. Theta Nu Epsilon is spring promenades, graveyard initiations, quartets singing the alma mater, and freshman beanies. It’s felt pennants on dorm room walls; raccoon coats and hip flasks at the football game; letterman sweaters and yellowed baseballs from the sixty year old championship game in the trophy case. It’s the college cemetery and the admissions interview, both. It’s the long drowsy afternoon in May, reading for exams, and the cool snap of an October evening, walking to the library after dinner. It’s mortarboards and hoods and faculty processions. It’s the college diner and the linear accelerator. It’s pitchers of beer and spiral bound notebooks. It’s an old pair of initials, scratched into the window frame of the library, and painted over a half-dozen times since then. It’s yearbooks and facebooks. It’s homecoming game and commencement day.
