Strasbourg, Our European Adventure, Theta Nu Epsilon Society, 2009. In a bold move, and with the sanction of the wiser heads in the society, the Alpha Chapter took an opportunity for a European initiation this past Fall. After almost a year of preparation, and with guarantees from two French faculty members, an initiation was held at the University of Strasbourg on October 25, 2008. Apparently it was a lovely night, which charmed one and all. A special delegation was dispatched from Middletown to France for the occasion, and the ceremonies were duly solemnized in ample form. However, it quickly became clear that all was not well with this new group of initiates, and, as it turned out, the deception of certain parties created a series of complications and the whole project fell apart. One of the faculty was not actually faculty, but instead had been lying about his association with the University of Strasbourg. This charlatan was Michel Ph. Mattoug, a man who claims to be a professor at that esteemed university, but who is no such thing. Worse, the students initiated were almost all not University of Strasbourg students but were from a nearby haute ecole named ISEG, (Institut Supérieur Europeén de Gestion of Strasbourg). The whole affair was a fraud. The students, of course, were not to blame. Why this fake professor Mattoug is allowed to run around Strasbourg taking advantage of students, we do not know. Perhaps the authorities of the city have some explanation for it. The students of ISEG seem to have acquitted themselves admirably in the fracas, and they returned all property of the society back to its owners. With the exception of one intrepid individual, Thomas Parsons, an undergraduate actually of the University who has refused to act honorably in the matter, and has kept items not belonging to him. The Alpha Chapter gave Mr. Parsons every opportunity to do the right thing and return things which did not belong to him. I don’t know what they call that on that side of the Atlantic, but on this side, it’s stealing. It was a case of white lie upon white lie, deceit upon deceit, resulting in a whole fabric of lying and mendacity. In all seriousness, it is a sad day when people who take their word so lightly use deceit to take advantage of those who actually have respect for their own word. The actions of this false-dealing Mattoug are truly reprehensible. That the man is in a position of influence over younger minds is very nearly alarming. It is very unfortunate that so many students, especially Mr. Parsons, have been misled by this Mattoug person.
